Michael Jackson

There are some subjects it is unwise to disagree with popular opinion about. Politics, religion, and Michael Jackson are on that list of taboo subjects. However; I have something of a reputation for rushing in where some folks fear to tread. And, I feel a certain obligation to defend my friend, Michael.

In private conversations with music industry friends I have expressed my opinions concerning Michael's legal problems.  Some people have said I am defending "unacceptable behavior." I disagree and point out he was never convicted. I maintain and defend my opinion.

My relationship with Michael began as business based. I promoted two of his albums. "Thriller" has been the largest selling album of all time for many years. I predict it will continue selling almost unbelievable numbers of copies for many years to come.  I promoted both, "Thriller" and "Bad."

I began our relationship with large amounts of respect and admiration for his talent, showmanship, dedication to his fans, and his innate knowledge of the entertainment industry. His business savvy greatly exceeded his age. As time went on, I developed both a strong fondness for him and a lot of concern for his total inability to recognize envy, greed, and uncontrolled ambition in other people.

Michael grew up in a surreal fairy tale world. When he was only five years old, he was touring with The Jackson Five. He quickly became a child star. Everything he could dream of except a normal childhood was there for him.  He was loved and pampered by everyone around him. He saw hundreds of millions of adoring fans populating his entire universe. He could do no wrong. No harm could befall him. Goodness and mercy surrounded him.

As he grew older, he applied his business skills and became one of the world's super wealthy. Older more experienced people advised him against paying $600 million for the publishing rights to the early Beetles music catalog. Nobody had ever paid nearly as much for publishing rights. He followed his gut and went against their advice. It has proven to be a very astute business move. His many decisions concerning the composition, production, presentation, and promotion of "Thriller" were equally astute.

His downfall and early death sprang from that same fairy tale life. He had more than enough money to buy anything he could imagine. There was nobody for him to envy. He had it all. He was by nature a truly considerate and compassionate person. He had achieved his amazing success without harming anyone. He had lived in a world that was sheltered and isolated from mean and angry people.

The negative emotions of fear, envy, greed, and uncontrolled ambitions were alien concepts to him. He had never been the carrier or victim of such thoughts and feelings. He understood the meaning of those concepts the same way most people understand war. They were bad things that happened far away to people he did not know. They existed in a world he had never been exposed to.

I tried to explain bad people to him. I told him there are two ways to have the tallest tree in town. Loving people do so, by planting, nurturing, and caring for their trees. Maladjusted, angry, envious, blindly ambitious, and bitter people do so by cutting down everyone else's tall trees. He just shot me that famous smile, rolled his eyes, and said, "You should have more faith in our fellow man."

Michael loved people. He especially loved children. He enjoyed being around children. It provided a vicarious way of experiencing the "normal" childhood he never experienced. Children shared an innocence his fairy tale life had left intact within him. Other adults had lost that innocence. The advice I offered proved my own fall from grace. I and those who offered similar warnings were cynical and unable to see all the love and beauty surrounding him and each of us.

Michael's first exposure to the evil side of people was the original accusation of child molestation. In his mind, it was a very rare aberration.  It was not indicative of people in general. He adopted the Christly response of, "Forgive them, Father. They know not what they do." He responded to the parents' greed with loving kindness. He gave them a few million dollars. Perhaps; it would allow them to grow, be happy, and lay down their ways of sin. If nothing else; it would teach them how insignificant a few million dollars were.

I tried to warn him the out of court settlement marked him as an easy target for similar people. I said other greedy parents would be willing to use their children to extort greater amounts. He had not lost his faith in love and goodness. The fact two poor misguided parents had given in to greed did not mean others would behave in a similar fashion.

I pointed out the long established career paths of many politicians. The successful prosecution of celebrities has taken many unscrupulous blindly ambitious politicians into higher more powerful offices. Power hunger has driven bad people to do anything imaginable to acquire and abuse power over ever increasing numbers of regular people. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Prosecuting attorneys have near absolute power.

Of course; it did happen again. Another set of parents was willing to rob their child of innocence. Another power hungry prosecutor viciously used Michael in a bid for higher office. The international broadcast news media used his misfortune to raise audience ratings. They joined in the effort to smear what was left of his reputation. They became foul smelling vultures feasting on the bleeding flesh of a magnificent and graceful antelope.

Michael won the battle, but lost his faith in the fundamental goodness of humanity. He left the country of his birth. He changed his entire life. He ran to avoid the next accusation and trial. He knew it would come, if he remained here.  This country he loved so much was no longer safe. He knew would be tormented by a long string of prosecuting attorneys. Each seeking to be the one who put that "menace to society" behind bars.

I fully expect the international media report his death was linked to drug abuse. It may have been. I know the true cause of his death. My friend died from a broken heart. He could not live in the vicious greedy world he was immersed in. The exposure to greed, envy, and run away ambition came too late in life. He never had a chance to develop the immunity most of us develop at a much younger age.

His death has deprived our world of a great talent, a truly kind and generous person, and the most innocent adult I have ever known. I hope the parents and prosecutors who did this to us find themselves in the worse part of Dante's Inferno.

As a closing comment I am compelled to say, "Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee."

He sure did die with a broken heart, just like Elvis. He said if he left this world he would like to leave like Elvis.Michael was a top entertainer and a great human being. He only wanted love and peace with the world. The media try's to do him like they did Elvis. There will only be one King Of Rockn Roll and one King of Pop.Michael will be missed deeply ,but his music and memories will live on forever.

My God! I've been trying to explain these same things to people since the beginning! My perception has always been that Michael just didn't have the negative thoughts of normal people. I've always considered the likelyhood that he seldom encountered anyone who wasn't lit up like a christmas tree at the sight of him. He had that effect. I didn't know Michael personally but as it happened, I was in a singing group of 5 as a child in Detroit before the Jackson 5 were introduced. I was about 5 or 6 when we started out singing most of the Motown hits. We did a lot of Temptations at first and then came The Jackson 5! It was perfect and I got to be Michael as the youngest member! I spent my whole childhood mimicking Michael and I had him down to a science. Not the dancing mind you. I've always been laid back. Too much jumping around for me! I naturally felt akin to him, I paid close attention to his personality whenever he spoke and I have felt his pain all of his life. I am fortunate in that my childhood showed me both the best and the worst of mankind so I've adapted to the harsh realities of this life but as a realist and one who believes in God wholeheartedly, I've hurt constantly and have no real love of this life. I can't phantom what it must have done to someone like Michael to learn of the world as it really is. For the first time in my life I am not saddened to see someone pass on and I have no doubts that Michael is now where he belongs. I, like everyone else will miss him dearly. Also like so many others, "without Micheal Jackson, there would likely be no Chivalry." I can't tell you how much I appreciate your taking the time to write this blog as it confirms what I've always believed. -Chivalry

I am absolutely sick of all of the things said about MJ - as most are - by now!! Those of us who are WHITE!! To YOU, & others, MJ was the BEST thing that EVER happened - like peanut butter & jelly sandwiches!! He died broke, overdosed on some pills - that were probably 'given' to him - by his doctor!! His career was OVER!! HE knew it!! In debt to the tune of over &600 MILLION bucks!!! The "accusations" (as you & others call them), MJ admitted to - & trying to downplay his perverted faggot ways paid off the 'victums' family to keep it quiet!! A late 40 yr old man?? He was a freak!! Look at his pictures! He looked like a girl - Diana Ross's sister! Wore lipstick, carried an umbrella ALL the time - to keep the plastic on his face from MELTING!! He 'brought together' both races by having part of him white, the other part - well, you KNOW the word I would use here but am NOT going to use it!! I hope the Devil in HELL welcomes him! That's where HE belongs - God hates people like HIM - read the Bible story of what happened to the 'men' who tried to seduce the religious ones - God BLINDED them!! Rest in peace? You were right about 'vultures' feeding on him - yeah, right - like maggots on a turd!!

Every single moment in time, in this realm of existence, here, on earth, as we know it to be, becomes a special memory forever. Each of our lives, in this realm, are that of a single drop of water in the ocean, compared to what we each have awaiting us in the "Hereafter"; being our "True Home, Heaven". Charlie, you are truly blessed to have your memories of Michael. And, Michael was truly blessed to have his memories of you, as well. God Bless You, Charlie.;)

OK, yes, I admit it & have asked & received forgiveness for words (in anger) that I said!! BUT MJ (the king of P.O.P. = pediphilles on parade), was NOT a god, or anything close! He was a drug infested freak who , from any early age, had a pampered life he NEVER outgrew! Talented? perhaps - in what HE did, BUT, as MANY know, the music business has NOTHING to do with MUSIC - it's just business!! IF, the trends or fans WANT something new, or different, or controversial, or a man? who fingers himself on stage - then, so be it!! All of the execs go crazy because all they see are $$$ signs! They could care less whether anyone LIKES it , or not! THEY are gonna make $$$ off anything - even somebody selling them a box of Amway soap!! To compare him to Elvis, or The BEATLES is not only untrue, but, ludicrous, as well as ridiculous! Elvis had talent!! He could, & DID sing in almost every stule or genre there WAS!! John Lennon of The BEATLES once made the comment The Beatles were more popular than Jesus!! This remark, later, became part of their downfall!! Paul McCartney was ALSO a Beatle!! HE has remarkable talent!! Why not include Michael?? Ok, he MIGHT have had some talen, but to claim him an icon - just because he sold more records, or had enough money given to him (which he NEVER intended to pay back) to BUY the Beatles repettrior, indicated WHAT he was! A spoiled brat who never grew up, a person who was nothing more than a child himself, & then, paid off the families of the 'vitums' to keep it quiet!! Why don't you, the rest of the world, & the media LET him rest in peace - wherever it is HE went!! :(:(

Mr. Withrow has demonstrated he knows nothing about the history of the Jackson Five nor the demands this industry places on child stars. Also the Beatles never said they were more popular then Jesus, that has been one of the most taken out of context statement ever reported. If you listen to the statement in its total form that becomes clear, Also, the statement was made years before the band break up, so again, this gentleman has no idea what he is talking about, only what he has heard and not bothered to look into on his own. By any definition Jackson was indeed an icon in the industry. His contributions to the advancement of the art has enabled many after him to better present thier talents. He was the main pioneer in Video television of music. He indeed was an exceptional talent. As Mr. Withrow obvioisly never met he man, then he is the least qualified to make comments concerning his character. As he obviously knows nothing about this industry other then from a fan perspective, he is even less qualified to voice an opinion of the demands and human cost kids pay for fame. As to where Mr. Jackson has gone, the scriptures make it clear and also where judgemental people like Mr. Withrow will end up, I prefer where Mr. Jackson is at myself.

P.S. To Mr. Winthrow. Jackson had four sold out performances later this year that would have paid off every thing, he was not broke, he was borrowing against his assets, but still had over $600 million in equity, and the concerts he had booked would have cleared him another $100 million. His career was far from over. Just where do you get your information? The National Enquirer? You surely are not getting it from any informed sources. You are also the least Bible literate person I have seen post on any forum in a long time, but you make a real nice bigot. Your Bibical reference are so totally wrong it is not even laughable, it is sick and sad. One last comment, he who yells the loudest, and you surely are doing so at the top of your lungs, always ends up having the most they want to hide. Get a life turkey.

I knew there would be some people reading this blog who would have an intensely negative reaction. People who have racist views resent any non white who suceeds. People who get most of their information from the mainstream "shock" media will have shocking views. These things are to be expected.

I presented my view of Michael with the hope it would cause some people to think. I believe it is doing exactly that. However; there will always be some people who refuse to think. These are the ones who fit the old truism, "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's impossible and it aggravates the pig."

I thought about deleting some comments. I have left those because they prove the longterm adverse effect of the broadcast media's "shocking" coverage of Michael's misfortunes. By doing so, they prove my point. The fact no jury ever convicted Michael is something some choose to ignore.

Reading each comment, word for word, which has, thusfar, been posted, I want to say: the Media tears people and their lives up, everyday, just to have a "story"; "to keep a job", and to advance in their jobs, at the expense of another persons happiness and success, as well as, at the happiness and security of that persons family, and true friends. The Media can and does affect not only the individual, but it also affects all and anyone who is close to that individual. The Media is not compassionate, at all. People in the Media only want to keep a day job, at the expense of anothers emotions. People who hang on to every word of the Media, live for Drama and Chaos within their own lives, at the expense of anothers emotions. For this reason, I understand the "Broken Heartedness" that Michael Jackson endured within his own sphere of life, in this realm, on this earth, as we know it to be. I ask, what is wrong with wanting only Love and Peace in the world? NOTHING is wrong with wanting that. It's wonderful that Michael did't have any negative thoughts. Negativity can eat a person alive. So can Bitterness. I'm thankful that there are other people, such as David J. Bembry, who believes in God, whole-heartedly, and puts himself in a position to feel another persons pain. I understand his concept of having no real love of this life. I understand, because I believe this life is NOT our True Life; I believe our True Life is yet to come, in the Hereafter, in Heaven. I agree there is a lot of chivalry in this realm of existence, as we know it to be. This is a chaotic world. It wasn't meant to be that way; each of us helped to make it that way. Nole Tuckett says in her comment, "Nothing is Forever -- only your word. I would like to add, ... Each Moment in Time, lasts for only an instant; once that second of a moment is gone, we can never get it back. However, each moment in time, makes a memory forever, and eternal, as these memories do carry over to our life in the Hereafter.

In addition to my previous comment, I'd like to add: Cindy Lane Adams says when she thinks of an artist, she thinks of nothing more than the music they write and sing. My response to this is: being an artist/musician/singer/songwriter/performer, is something that comes from deep within the Heart and the Soul. It's a Passion, we are all born with. Everyone is born with a passion. For some it's singing and performing, writing, composing, or UFC Fighting (my son fights for UFC, earned his way there by fighting. It's in his Heart and Soul. I'd NEVER ask him to stop following his passion. He was born with it. Passions are deeper than surface deep. They are at the very core of the soul, before we are even born into this world. I agree with Col Walt Johnson, when he says Ray Withrow is the least Bible literate. Ray says he's asked forgiveness for things he's said. To ask forgiveness of things, follows a choice not to do that same thing again. I believe Ray Withrow premeditates on what he's going to spitefully, wrongfully, and hurtfully say before he says it. I believe he does this just to have the attention put on him, which he's prob'ly done all his life, not caring who he hurts in the process. Well, Ray Withrow,.... la dee la dee dah... you don't deserve the attention, so I don't hear you. In Gods' Kingdom, there is no racism, there is no hate, there is no hurting others, verbally, or physically. I'm happy for Michael Jackson, that he is now in a place where he DOES have it ALL. He's made it! As for you, Ray Withrow, I won't judge you; that's Gods' job. I can only pray for you. Everybody has a "past"... what's yours, Ray Withrow? We need to look at the WHOLE PICTURE. Media is only Propaganda... twisted stories, to make money off the weak, and to keep a day job. Musicians like Michael kept the music going strong, for generations to come. I hope there are more of us out there, who will continue to keep the music going! It's hard work, but well worth it! ;)

I loved Michael Jackson from the time I was a little girl. I used to sit in my car and sing along to man in the mirror; an innocent child realizing that this man who wrote such a great song meant his lyrics. I defend Michael, always did, always will, against the awful allegations made by this sick world and the greedy people inh it. To see and know Michael, all you had to do was listen to his lyrics. He was a man with great compassion, love and spirit. I don't have the honour of having met him, but I had the honour of loving him and his music through his entire life. I can't wait to meet him in heaven one day, where he's singing with the angels. as his song says, 'I'll Be there'. Yes Michael, you already are!
